I’m Shusui, the founder and a Buddhist bead craftsman.
Listen to the voice of the pearl and bring out its beauty to the fullest.
That is my job.
Prayer beads have been with people’s prayers since ancient times. Whether in moments of joy or sorrow, gently holding them in one’s hand calms the mind and provides the strength to move forward, making them a mysterious ritual tool.
I cherish above all the ‘feelings’ imbued in that series.
Natural stones and wood gathered from around the world. I engage with these materials, each possessing a unique expression, and explore the form in which each bead shines most brilliantly. Then, based on the traditional craftsmanship of Kyoto prayer beads, I carefully assemble each strand entirely by my own hand.
We continue to refine our craft daily, with the hope that it will become a ‘protective charm’ that fits comfortably in the hands of those who use it and can be cherished for a long time.
